Lucille Ball & Vivian Vance of “I Love Lucy” had their ups and downs throughout their careers. At times they quarreled and feuded. However they formed one of the greatest comedy duos on tv. Every journey that is worth while must come to an end.
Lucille Ball came with a solemn task in 1979 to Belvedere, California. It was time for her to say farewell to her good friend Vivian Vance. Vance knew she had no more time to live and desired to see Ball yet another time. Plenty of laughter and tears would be shed.
Vance died of advanced bone cancer at that time. Vance was first diagnosed with breast cancer. The doctors were concerned that Vance was dying. Vance had a mastectomy in order to save her life. The cancer had also been treated with chemotherapy. The fight to save her life was futile as the cancer spread.
Paige Peterson had been the daughter of the landlord of Vance. Much like Ethel Mertz and Lucy Ricardo, Peterson in her final days grew close to Vance. From New York, the actor had moved to Belvedere, California, to spend her last days in relative peace.
Peterson talked about Ball’s last farewell to Vivian Vance in an interview with people Magazine.
Peterson said: “You could hear them laughing and there was a great deal of sobbing at the end. Even now, that memory stands out for her. “It was an incredible thing to see. The love between these two ladies.
