Lucille Ball Said Goodbye to Vivian Vance
Lucille Ball and Vivian Vance appeared together in “I Love Lucy” for the first time. They proceeded to star in a variety of projects together, including “The Lucy Show.” Peterson talked about how the last encounter between the two was like.
We took Viv down and she ended up lying in the living room on the couch. After lunch, they continued to talk. “Viv knew she was dying,” Peterson stated. Most of the time she left the 2 stars alone. Peterson remained in a close by room just if Vance needed her. She doesn’t remember exactly how Vance looked after Ball. The pain in her face shaken me to the knees. Her eyes were filled with tears. She was unable to speak. Viv seemed to have given up after that.
The grief was also inconsolable for Lucille Ball. Ball’s daughter, Lucie Arnaz Luckinbill, said she was grieving for several months following Vance passed away.
She told the newspaper that she cried for months after losing Viv. Viv was my mother’s sister in many ways. Her ability to talk to Mom was unmatched, and I doubt my mother could confide in a lot of people the way she did with Viv.
Vivian Vance died on August 17, 1979.
