“Ricky Thinks He’s Getting Bald” (Season 1, Episode 34)
When Lucy makes a crack concerning aging, noting the lines around her eyes and Ricky’s receding hairline, Ricky becomes convinced he is going bald. Lucy purchases a series of painful and excessive scalp stimulating treatments in an attempt to wake Ricky up from his funk and prove that possible hair loss is not really worth worrying about. Ricky is unperturbed by the supplies, so Lucy makes up treatments including oil, vinegar, eggs, and a plunger to persuade him that he does not need them. Ricky, however, says they should begin using them every night to promote faster hair growth.
“Job Switching” (Season 2, Episode 1)
After Fred and Ricky voice their discontent over Lucy and Ethel’s spending habits, the wives and husbands choose to change roles. Following an admittably cringey exchange between “earners” and “spenders,” the girls get jobs as candymakers and the guys try to do household chores. Both sides have problems with their new positions, leading to an incident involving a conveyer belt that Ethel and Lucy can not keep up with. The episode also appears as an outlier in an otherwise cyclical series, by permitting Ricky and Lucy to develop greater appreciation for one another rather than just bringing them back to where they started.
